Rapid Prototyping with mbed (Oxford)
This is the fourth workshop in this series of regional workshops aimed at encouraging non-electronics engineers to set up and start prototyping product ideas and concepts using micrcontrollers. This workshop is centred around the use of an ARM/NXP mbed board which is based on a sophisticated and powerful 32-bit microcontroller

Introduction
Are you an innovator or an inventor? Or maybe a designer? Or a product develope
r?
Have you ever considered prototyping a new electronic product, but had been put off by the daunting prospect of learning how to use microcontrollers and how to develop the electronics associated with them?
This workshop, brought to you by the ESP KTN Electronics Knowledge Centre in partnership with RS Components and ARM/NXP, is aimed at demonstrating how easy it can be to rapidly prototype a new idea for an electronic product using sophisticated and powerful 32-bit microcontrollers with rich functionality, complex I/O capabilities and great performance.
Participants in this workshop will learn about the capabilities of the mbed microcontroller board, and how to quickly set up and start developing functionality using the free, lightweight, online compiler and libraries of code. The afternoon session will also include a “Freeform Lab”, which will give all delegates a hands-on opportunity to play with the mbed board and a selection of peripheral components including sensors, actuators, displays and interfaces.
PLEASE NOTE: Due to the interactive nature of this workshop, all delegates will need to bring their own laptop/mac running windows/MacOS/Linux and have full administration rights. If you do not have a laptop to bring with you, please contact daniel.dearing@espktn.org ASAP.
At the end of the day all participants will get to take home a free* kit of components allowing them to continue experimenting and prototyping and exploring the possibilities of the platform
